You may not have to run around to apply for a new water connection soon. The civic body has decided to simplify the process by making it available online.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) now allows citizens to track the status of their water connection application online.
Civic chief Ajoy Mehta, in his annual budget speech last week, said a decision on the application should be taken within 15 days.
The civic body aims to add 10,000 new water connections to the current list. Last year, the civic body approved 5,364 new water connections. But now the civic body hopes to achieve 100% more this year and curb illegal water supply.
The civic body is also in the process of drafting a new policy as directed by the Bombay high court to grant water connections to all slum dwellers irrespective of tenure.
Once it is approved, the civic body will be in the position to add more than 10,000 water connections this year.
Mehta, in the budget speech, said, “The application process is user-friendly with an online tracking feature. It is mandatory to take a decision on the application within 15 working days.”
Apart from simplifying the application form, the civic body is also developing a work flow based system application
for online trenching management that will enable utility companies to apply for trenching and make the payment online.
Civic officials will then approve and issue permits online.
Another such development proposed in the budget is an interactive citizen centric portal, which will incorporate applications and services of various civic departments under one system.
This new portal will help answer citizens’ queries and provide effective reporting and analysis of various civic issues.
The portal will also be integrated with social media and is expected to be launched next month.
