A report would have been taken on scene and submitted to the State of Colorado. No further action is required. The officer should have provided a reference number for reporting to an insurance company. A crash report can be obtained following the information below.

Reporting crashes to the State of Colorado Motor Vehicle Division is required. Please see the information below to report the crash.

Reporting Traffic Crashes

If Broomfield Police did not respond to the crash, it is still a requirement to report it to the State of Colorado. Below are a few situations that may constitute the need to report an crash after the fact:

Broomfield was on Accident Alert and:

• No injury or fatality was involved.
• None of the drivers were suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
• None of the drivers failed to provide proof of identity or insurance.
• No other issues requiring police intervention existed.
• The crash did not involve damage to a city or other governmental vehicle or property.
• The vehicles and drivers involved were present at the scene and the driver, vehicle, and insurance information was exchanged.

The Crash Occurred on Private Property and:

• No injury or fatality was involved.
• None of the drivers were suspected to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
• None of the drivers failed to provide proof of identity or insurance.
• No other issues requiring police intervention existed.
• The vehicles and drivers involved were present at the scene and the driver, vehicle, and insurance information was exchanged.
• There was no major damage to another's property such as a vehicle through a building.
• No one insisted that the police respond.

The Crash was a Hit-and-Run and:

• the victim left the scene of the crash prior to reporting it; and
• there is no suspect or vehicle information.

Reporting Options

If one of the above circumstances applies, choose one of the following options:

• Come to the front lobby of the Broomfield Police Department located at 7 DesCombes Drive and complete the State of Colorado Traffic Accident Report.
  • This option is to complete the report at the Police Department.
  • There is an instructional cover page that accompanies the report.
  • Please follow the directions carefully.
  • A reference number and a copy of your accident report will be provided at that time.
  • The Broomfield Police will mail the report to the State of Colorado.
  • This option requires printing the State of Colorado Traffic Crash Report.
  • Complete it and mail it to the State of Colorado Motor Vehicle Division Traffic Records, Denver, CO 80261-0016.
  • There is an instructional cover page that accompanies the form.
  • Please follow the directions carefully.
  • It is suggested that a copy of the report is kept for your records.
  • Call the Department of Motor Vehicles at 303-205-5793 two weeks after the report is mailed to obtain a reference number.
